LCRfm Returns to Woodford Garden Centre for One Final Outside Broadcast As Family Business Announces Closure

July 23, 2026 - 12:13 PM - 463 views

This Saturday, July 25th, LCRfm will broadcast live from Woodford Garden Centre for what promises to be one of the most special and emotional outside broadcasts in the station’s history.

After an incredible 40 years in business, Woodford Garden Centre will close its doors on Saturday, August 1st, as owners John and Martina Keon step away from the business following ongoing health challenges. It marks the end of an era for a business that has become a cornerstone of the local community and a destination for customers from across Galway and beyond.

For everyone at LCRfm, the news is particularly poignant.

Over the past five years, Woodford Garden Centre has proudly sponsored The Afternoon Show with Dave & Paul, helping to support community radio while becoming much more than a sponsor. Through that partnership, the station has returned year after year for live outside broadcasts that have become highlights of the broadcasting calendar.

From chatting with loyal customers and local businesses to giving away prizes, sharing music and creating lasting memories, each visit has been something special. Many at the station would agree that the broadcasts from Woodford Garden Centre have been among the finest outside broadcasts LCRfm has ever produced.

This Saturday’s programme will therefore be unlike any other.

While there will naturally be a sense of sadness as everyone says goodbye to a much loved local business, the focus will be on celebrating everything John, Martina and of course the wonderful Fabiani along with the team have achieved over the past four decades.

Listeners are invited to call in, say hello, share their memories and help us give Woodford Garden Centre the send-off it truly deserves.

We’ll be broadcasting live from 10am until 4pm, with music, interviews, competitions and plenty of surprises as we celebrate 40 remarkable years of service to the community.

John and Martina recently thanked their customers, staff, suppliers and the wider community for the loyalty and friendship shown throughout the past four decades, saying that while the decision to close was an extremely difficult one, their hearts are filled with gratitude for the many cherished memories they have made together.

Everyone at LCRfm would like to thank John and Martina for their friendship, generosity and unwavering support over the past five years. More than sponsors, they have become valued friends of the station, and Woodford Garden Centre will always hold a very special place in the hearts of everyone involved with LCRfm.

So if you’ve ever tuned into one of our broadcasts from Woodford Garden Centre, visited the centre over the years, or simply want to say thank you to John and Martina, we’d love to see you this Saturday, July 25th from 10am

Let’s make it the biggest, warmest and most memorable outside broadcast yet and give this remarkable family business the celebration it truly deserves
